NBC 4 Health & Fitness Expo

Today, I attended the NBC 4 Health & Fitness Expo with my sister. We had a blast manning the Stop the Silence booth.

Stop the Silence Inc. is a non-profit, charitable 501(c)3 organization which works with individuals, community- and faith-based organizations, companies and governmental organizations in various communities — locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally — to raise awareness and funds to comprehensively support and conduct programming that expose and stop Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and to help survivors heal worldwide.

While at the booth we met a very inspirational survivor that told her story of incest and how she has dealt with the aftermath over the years. Her story made me aware of how important it is to really know the people our children spend time with. Also as parents we have to watch the interactions between our children because a predator can be in the form of a sibling. I never thought of this until meeting the aforementioned survivor.

Additionally, I learned the need to have support programs for both females and males. Oftentimes people only think of females as sexual abuse victims but from the stories I heard today this epidemic is affecting both sexes.

I am so glad I was able to support my dear friend, LaQuisha Hall, by volunteering with an organization that is so dear and near to her heart.
