The Joys of Reading

What experience do you think a children's literacy advocate would find priceless?

Hands down it is having your child read not one but two books to you in the same evening.

I am on cloud nine right now because of the pride I have for Vanessa's continued interest in reading and seeing the vast improvement in her skills over the years. Her reading fluency is outstanding for her age. Most importantly though she is eager to share her love of reading with everyone she comes in contact with. This evening alone she read a book to my mother, sister, Jade (other daughter) and of course the two books she read to me.

I am sharing this story with you because I am very proud but also to say that you can also have a similar experience with your own child. Once a child is exposed to reading and books it is natural for them to want to hear a story or join in the fun by reading to you.

The next time you have a free moment grab a book and spend a few minutes reading it with your child because it will have lasting effects on both of your lives.
