Adventures in a Braider's Chair

Being an expectant mom your emotions are all over the place. One minute I feel like crying and the next I am just bubbling with enthusiasm.

This weekend was a hectic one...Girl Scouts Friday night and my niece's baby shower on Saturday. I was drained by Sunday so I decided to do something for myself. Drum roll please :)... I went to the beauty salon to get my hair done. This is a pretty big deal because since growing my "locks" I have only gotten them professionally done once and it was a pure disaster. I was devastated with the outcome and my husband literally asked me why I allowed the stylist to unravel my "locks." In short the stylist had no clue in maintaining or styling dreadlocks.

Well, back to Sunday. I was lucky to find a salon that was open (black salons have an unspoken rule of being closed on Sunday and Monday) so that in itself was a huge feat. One problem though...it was a braiding studio. There is a big difference between braids and locks (if you wear either you know what I mean) so I was a little apprehensive. I decided to consult my sister on the decision and she said to go for it because most braiders are skilled stylist so even if my “maintaince” wasn’t good at least it could be camouflaged by the styling. So, I set up an appointment for 2:00 pm and arrived promptly. While waiting for my service to begin I watched the stylist finish up a cornrowed style. I was impressed with the neatness of her work. This however did not completely calm my nerves. I was scared the entire time in her chair. After completing the final touches to my “do” the stylist handed me the mirror and all I could say was I Love You. I was speechless due to my fondness of my new style. She did an extraordinary job and I will be a repeat customer.

I will try to get a photo taken this week so you can see what I look like with my locks pinned up.
