On February 1, President Obama released his FY11 budget request which eliminates the funding for Reading Is Fundamental and its nationwide services. Without federal funding, more than 4.4 million children and families will not receive free books or reading encouragement from RIF programs. RIF strongly encourages you to act now and help RIF reinstate its funding by sending an email to your members of Congress asking them to sign the RIF Dear Colleague letter.I ask you to take two important steps: first, contact your House of Representatives member between now and March 5, and second, contact your U.S. senators between March 8 and April 2 and urge them to sign the RIF Dear Colleague letter. It only takes a couple minutes but has profound effects on our children.
