This past weekend was jam packed to say the least.
My hubby and I began the weekend off by taking our children to a Kid's Inauguration party at Border's bookstore. This event was very memorable to both girls because they followed the elections from when Barack first announced his intentions of running for president. Also with our help both of our children "voted" in the 2009 elections by pressing the candidate names on the voting prompters for mommy and daddy so it was only fitting that they should share in the celebration festivities.
Later that evening my husband and I decided to watch Notorious. During some parts of the movie I found myself thinking about the morals and values my parents taught me and the ones we are teaching our own children. I quickly reminded myself though that I and no one else can force our values on others regardless of how convicted we are about them. Overall we both found the movie inspiring.
On Sunday, the Beginning the Journey Board of Directors and volunteers participated in a fundraising drive for the Washington Yu Ying book distribution fair. Thank you to many generous donations we are one step closer to acquiring the needed funds and books to make the fair a successful event and bringing the joys of reading to a wider audience.
Finally on Monday, I participated in a Martin Luther King Celebration. During this event my hubby and I was in charge of registering all event participants. It was truly a nice event to be a part of because the words of Martin Luther King is oh so important to us because we want our daughters to be judged on who they are and never to be forced to describe themselves as white or black since they are both.
