Selected as Program of the Month (February 2009)

Today, I received a package from Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) but thought nothing much of it since my annual contract was recently renewed. I automatically assumed it was documents pertaining to this. To my astonishment it was a letter from Carol H. Rasco the President and CEO of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) announcing the selection of Beginning the Journey as the program of the month for February 2009.

I will share a quote from the letter that touched my heart "Unit 1, the team that supports your geographic area, selected your program for outstanding achievement in motivating children to read. Reading Is Fundamental depends on programs like yours to promote children's literacy. Thanks to thousands of volunteers like you, children all across the country are discovering the joy of reading. We are truly grateful for your tireless efforts." Receiving this recognition made me proud but I realized soon after reading the letter and basking in the awe of my certificate that this award was only possible due to the support received from my board of directors, presiding officer, sponsors and volunteers. I thank you for believing in the RIF message and aiding in my effort to bring greater awareness to the importance of literacy and reading being the key to our future.

As a part of this award Beginning the Journey will be named and celebrated at the national staff wide meeting, highlighted on the RIF website, within its eNewsletter and via its national press releases.
