Today, we celebrated Jade and Emily's birthday at the national zoo in Washington, DC. Since it was Mother's Day we thought the zoo would be quiet and not very crowded but boy were we surprised.
Unfortunately, many of the animals were not out but we had a great time. I especially enjoyed the invertebrate house and was thrilled to learn more about animals without backbones. We saw an octopus, giant lobster, hermit crab, algae and many other unique life forms that are without backbones. Additionally we visited the small mammal, panda and apes houses and tried to see the "big cats" but their house had already closed. While walking through the zoo we also saw lots of little critters that are allowed to roam free throughout the zoo.
All in all, a great time was had by all and now it is time to go get a slice of birthday cake.
