Zoo Animal Safari

Today, Girl Scout Troop 6037 attended the Zoo Animal Safari at the national zoo in Washington, DC.

As a troop we learned about conflict resolution by visiting various animals within the zoo. Below are the 10 characteristics we focused on:

Cheetah - Camoflage and reacting passively to a situation
Elephant - Being a group leader and importance of friends
Hippopotamaus - Standing ground and things are not always what they seem
Apes - Looks can always be deceiving and understanding differences
Snakes - Protection by posturing and displaying confidence
Lions and Tigers - Being strong but not a bully
Bats - Communication
Two-Toed Sloth - Taking some time to relieve stress by lounging about
Bears - Reacting to surprise
Golden Lion Tamarin Monkey - Endangered species and working with family

Today's program was very beneficial to our troop because we enjoyed seeing the animals but more importantly the scouts were given the opportunity to think individually and as a group about how and when animal behavior can apply in their lives especially in conflict situations.
